Africa has been part of the F.I.L.M. Mentorship programme from the outset. He worked as a Trainee AD on Fleish & 3 Investigators, serviced by Two Oceans Productions.
He has also worked on various commercials with Jump Films and Renegade Films.
anthony hawkins

Anthony's tertiary qualifications are in the field of Journalism. Though he does not have a great deal of hands-on experience in Film or Television, he is very keen to become a Line Producer.
ashley olivier

Ashley is currently a 2009 MapppSeta Discretionary Grant beneficiary.
Having originally started out working for Star Film Rentals, he came onto the program in 2009 and worked on Free Willy South Africa co-produced by Film Afrika, starring Beau Bridges and Bindi Irwin. He was mentored by Lester Sweetman.
He moved on to The Philanthropist with Moonlighting Films, mentored by Bradley Sweetman followed by a stint as Unit Manager for the Film in Focus production, Pumzi.
BONGO MARALA

Before coming onto the F.I.L.M. programme, Bongo produced and directed documentaries for Edit Café/Swani Films/Plexis Films.
His career choice is that of Line Producer.
BRENT SAULS

Brent came onto the program recently in 2009. He has quite a lot of experience on production having worked on commercials for Still King Films and In Action Films.
Brent worked on the Film Afrika co-production, Free Willy as a Trainee Spark, under the mentorship of Oliver Wilter.
He has a driver’s license, which is gold in the industry, went onto Do productions as a Runner and quickly progressed to Trainee Spark, due to his production and on-set experience.
brian lawrence

Brian's chosen career path is Transport and Unit Management and he has no illusions about what it will take to get there. His film experience began in 2007 having worked with Laurie Dunn on the Film Afrika production, No1 Ladies Detective Agency and on the Moonlighting production, Doomsday.
He is currently working with Star Film Rentals and completed a stint on the recent Film in Focus production, working with another F.I.L.M. trainee, Ashley Olivier as Unit Captain.
christo crafford

Christo is one of the new learners who joined F.I.L.M. in 2009. He has considerable on-set production experience such as Assistant Director, Production, Editor and Camera operator but his experience was mostly gained on short films.
Christo’s dream is to become a camera operator and ultimately, DOP.
CHRISTOPHER SEPTEMBER

Christopher is a new member of the F.I.L.M. programme with mainly stunt experience, having worked on big productions such as the Philanthropist, as a stunt man.
CLAUDIA ODU KYE

One of F.I.L.M’s early trainees, Claudia is working as Trainee Film Production Accountant with Do Productions.
DIERDRE HEATHER MANUEL

Dierdre is one F.I.L.M’s early trainees and has joined Two Oceans as Trainee Film Production Accountant.
ERIC HOFF

Eric is short on hands-on feature film industry experience, he does have strong administration and planning experience which is why he would like to pursue a career path as Transport/Unit Manager.
He discovered this passion when he worked on a project for Star Film Rentals working on film sets.
FEZIWE GONSTANA

Feziwe has a passion for film although she lacks hands-on production experience, which is why she joined the F.I.L.M. program. She is a strong-willed extrovert however and she consequently chose a career path as Production Manager.
She is slated to go onto the Two Oceans Production The Sinking of the Larconia as a Trainee Production Manager in the near future.
GRANT ABRAHAMS

Having worked mainly on documentaries, Grant worked on Two Oceans Production’s Gloria and Glamour (Mit Glanz und Gloria), as Trainee 3rd AD, mentored by Dieter Sperthman, in February-April 2009 and briefly with Moonlighting Films on The Philanthropist.
He is currently on a year-long grant doing a course through Multi-Choice and Big Fish in Johannesburg.
honest ngondo

Honest joined F.I.L.M. in 2009 with Continuity, Script Supervision and Production Secretary-experience.
Since joining F.I.L.M. she went in at the deep end in the production office on the Human Factor/ Invictus as a trainee production secretary under Clint Eastwood’s American Production Coordinator Holy Hagy.
At the same time, for the last two weeks of the production, starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar, she also assumed the duties of Production Receptionist which she performed extremely well.
Honest is currently working under the mentorship of Genevieve Hofmeyr at Moonlighting Films.
JEREMY JACOBS

Jeremy joined F.I.L.M. quite recently having produced and directed various documentaries for SABC since 2003. He has also worked on various short films and projects.
JOHAN VAN NIEKERK

Johan was introduced to the F.I.L.M. program through Jaco Loubser in 2008 while working at Homebrew Films. Jaco felt it important that Johan and Leith Morkel get the full benefit of the program.
Johan has been learning and growing tremendously under the mentorship of Jaco and Noel Cloete.
john davids

John was part of the first F.I.L.M. intake in 2007. He subsequently embarked on a training grant as Trainee Researcher mentored by Dylan Voogt of Moonlighting Film Productions.
He has been has been accepted on the CFC/ Services Seta Animation course over the coming year.
kgotla APPOLUS

Kgotla Appolus has gained experience on set as a PA and Production Coordinator, and is passionate about his long-term goal of becoming a Line Producer.
Kgotla joined FILM in 2009 and is currently being mentored at Film Afrika's offices, gaining valuable experience in Film Researching under the mentorship of Belinda Johnson.
KHAYALETHU MAREPULA

Khaya comes from the MyLife project and has a great deal of experience on production. His long term goal is to become a Gaffer.
He has worked on various big features as a spark, most recently having worked on Free Willy South Africa with Film Afrika.
KHOSI DALI

Started out as a junior editor in 2007. She worked as a PA for Kalahari Pictures and with Revel Fox on Song of Three Women.
She was recently mentored by Rudi Van As of Film Afrika in the Accounts Department and thereafter went onto the Film in Focus production, The Abyss Boys (Take 10 Films) as Production Assistant mentored by Tendeka Matatu.
LEITH MORKEL

Leith, introduced to F.I.L.M. through Jaco Loubser, is another of our Discretionary Grant beneficiaries training to be a Sound Engineer. He is mentored by Stef Albertyn under the Homebrew Films umbrella and is showing tremendous dedication, commitment and promise in this challenging career choice.
LEONARD MPAMBANI

Leonard came onto F.I.L.M. in 2009 while operating as a driver on the Philanthropist.
His desired career path is Unit and Locations Manager.
LINDA MPUTA

Linda is a veteran of the programme. She started off at E-TV then moved to Pitch Black Films and completed a training stint at Penguin Films.
LINDSAY WELFF

Lindsay Welff came onto the F.I.L.M. program as a Trainee Spark with ambitions to Line Produce.
He was mentored by Oliver Wilter & Andrew Phyfer as Trainee Spark on Free Willy South Africa with Film Afrika and worked briefly on Do Production’s Themba.
He is currently pursuing his own interests in film production.
MEGAN GOSS

Megan Goss was part of the original F.I.L.M. intake in 2007 and went from strength to strength, finding a niche working In Two Oceans Productions on different productions.
She has joined Two Oceans Productions full time now as Trainee AD under Sandra Venzke-Krecklenberg.
MFUNDO TYELI

Mfundo joined the F.I.L.M. program in 2007 at the outset and was a beneficiary of the original MapppSeta Discretionary Grant.
Since then has worked on numerous Television productions and features such as Stokvel with Penguin Films and Albert Schweitzer starring Jeroen Krabbe and Barbara Hershey with Two Oceans Productions.
He is committed and passionate about his career path and recently finished a successful stint as a trainee in Art Direction working on The Philanthropist with Moonlighting Films.
monde Dlutu

Monde worked for the Cape Film Commission in 2008 on various Documentaries.
His chosen career path is Production Management and he is rearing to go as a Trainee Production Manager.
monde MKONTWANA

Monde is a veteran of the F.I.L.M. program having come on board with the first intake. He started off working in the Art Department and worked on various features including Scorpion King with Film Afrika.
He is on a training grant at Film Afrika being mentored by Belinda Johnson and would like to become a Creative Director.
He has recently completed an A+ Essentials & A+ IT course.
mpheleki maqekeza

Mpheleki is new to the program. He wants to become a DOP. He assisted the first time round on Moonlighting’s Philanthropist.
He went out on his next production with Film in Focus, Take 10 Film production, the Abyss Boys, directed by Tendeka Matatu. His mentor was Ricardo and all indications via the production grapevine are that he is firing on all cylinders.
NAHUM DEKE

Nahum Deke was introduced to F.I.L.M. while working at Moonlighting Commercials in 2009.
He started off on The Philanthropist as part of the production department but due to the lead being injured, the production was postponed.
natalia vooslag

Natalia is another of our Discretionary Grant beneficiaries working with Moneypenny Services on a year-long grant, as a trainee Film Production Accountant.
She is being mentored by Shamila Fredericks.
NOBUBELE MAPETSHANA

Nobulele has done a lot of volunteer work and has worked as an intern at Big World Cinema and Encounters. She has also worked as a Camera Assistant for Gold Circle Race.
Nobubele’s dream is to become a Camera Operator/ DOP.
PHILANE NDABA

Joined F.I.L.M. in 2009 after a stint at the UCT Film and Media School and has worked consistently since then on Two Oceans Production's A Summer in New England (Ein Sommer in Neu England) & Film Afrika's Free Willy SA starring Beau Bridges and Bindi Irwin where he was mentored by Haley Ross and Corry Turner.
He also worked on the recent Film in Focus production, Pumzi.
RHONWYN ETIAN BRANDERS

Etian is one of the young men emerging from the MyLife Project.
He is keen as anything although still fairly new to the industry. Thus far he has worked on commercials with Asylum Productions and on a `Bollywood’ feature with Zen HQ Productions.
He is passionate and committed and his chosen career path is that of a Spark, bringing light to productions.
richard velembo

Originally mentored by Joanne Goldstone, Richard is currently another of our Discretionary Grant Fund beneficiaries on a year-long program.
He is being mentored by Juanita Davids of Moonlighting Films.
robert scott

Robert recently graduated from City Varsity and has a Diploma in Video Editing and Scriptwriting.
His chosen career path is editing which poses something of a challenge in the feature industry as most Post is done overseas.
RYAN CYSTER

Ryan is a youth leader in the Mylife Project and is fairly new to the industry. He has worked on commercials with Asylum Productions and on a `Bollywood’ feature with Zen HQ Productions.
His chosen career path is that of Spark.
sakhumzi mati

Sakhumzi is a F.I.L.M. veteran, having been with the program since it began. Like many other aspiring film-makers, his long-term vision is to direct. He has worked on numerous productions gaining camera experience and he has written and directed his own productions.
He has worked for Two Oceans Productions as 3rd AD and recently completed Kennedy's Brain as 3rd AD trainee, mentored by Mack Mohammed. He also recently worked very well by all accounts, on a Film in Focus production as Camera Assistant.
SIYABONGA JIM

Siyabonga Jim was part of the original F.I.L.M. intake in 2007 and after a long haul has joined Two Oceans Productions as Trainee Clapper-Loader under the mentorship of Angus de la Harpe
SISANDA HENNA

Sisanda comes from an acting background. He has worked on numerous productions, mostly as an actor in Sitcoms, Features, Television and Commercials. He also has considerable on-set production experience.
Since his 1st professional production job back in 2003, he has worked on researching, casting, writing, translating scripts, coordinating, directing, co-producing and producing; from small film school year-end projects, to TV shows and feature films.
Most recently, he was mentored by renowned line producer Genevieve Hofmeyr as a trainee producer, on the Clint Eastwood production `Invictus’, serviced by Moonlighting Films in Cape Town.
His aspirations are to work as a producer and executive producer of world-class film and television products: developing, packaging, producing and financing successful global productions and he has applied to the New York Film Academy to do a post-graduate degree in Film Production.
SIYAMUKELWA NGCOBO

A recent addition to the F.I.L.M. program, Siyamukelwa has a journalistic background and would very much like to become a Production Manager.
THOBELA JONI

Thobela is part of the original 2007 F.I.L.M. team. Originally she worked at Pitch Black Films under Beverley Mitchell.
In 2008 she worked with David Louw at Two Oceans Productions as Production Assistant and is slated as Trainee Production Manager for the new Two Oceans Production The Sinking of the Larconia.
sipho vanga

Sipho joined F.I.L.M. in 2009. He has been in the industry for some time with a strong background in journalism, documentary television and theatre.
He has aspirations over the longer-term, to direct.
SITHEMBISO SONSHAKA

Sithembiso came on board F.I.L.M. quite recently having worked for Stunt SA on many big productions such as Free Willy, Scorpion King, End Game, Starship Troopers and Last House on the Left.
Sithembiso’s dream is to get into the Art Department on productions
UNATHI TANZELANA

A new addition to F.I.L.M. Unathi comes from a Radio background where she was a presenter on Good Morning South Africa (SABC).
She hopes to be placed on a feature soon as Production Assistant.
vaneshree lingham

Vaneshree has a Bachelor of Arts and majored in Drama at UCT. She does not have extensive Television or Feature experience but will be going onto a Two Oceans Production, The Sinking of the Larconia.
vuyiseka mangele

Vuyiseka is currently working at Idol Pictures as a camera assistant, but is really keen to gain feature film experience in the camera department.
WARDAH FREDERICKS

Wardah is another F.I.L.M. veteran who has been involved with us from the outset.
She worked on a number of productions with different companies including Monkey Films which is predominantly a Commercials production company. She also worked on Scorpion King for Film Afrika in the Art Dept.
She is currently a 2009 MapppSeta Discretionary Grant beneficiary being mentored by top Line Producer Vlokkie Gordon from Film Afrika as a trainee Line Producer.
She is committed, passionate and professional about what she does and is growing in leaps and bounds.
wesley johannson

Wesley is one of our F.I.L.M. veterans, having joined in 2007 with the first intake.
Since joining F.I.L.M. in 2007 he has been on a training grant at Homebrew Films and is being mentored by Noel Cloete. He is rapidly assuming the role of fully-fledged editor, under the watchful eye of Noel and CEO Jaco Loubser.
VUYANE PLAATJIE

Vuyane Plaatjie has loads or experience in editing, having gained most of his experience while working for the SABC on documentaries. His chosen career path is that of AD and he is keen to gain more experience on feature films.
YVETTE JOUBERT

Yvette joined F.I.L.M. recently having worked as a Production Coordinator for ETV.
She has fairly wide experience on production, having worked in Wardrobe and as Line Producer, Production Manager and as Coordinator on the Cutting Edge/ Cape Film.
Her ambition is to become a kick-ass Line Producer.
zanele bam

Joined F.I.L.M. fairly recently with relatively little initial experience.
But it just goes to show it’s not where you find yourself, but what you do about it. Zanele has been working full-time ever since. She recently worked on Do Production’s Themba as trainee Production Secretary and is doing extremely well.
zukiswa simulekane

Zukiswa joined F.I.L.M. at the end of 2008. Although she studied to become an editor, given that most feature film post production is still done abroad, it is difficult to get a mentorship opportunity, as a trainee editor on a feature.
Zukiswa decided to explore other film career paths and has worked on features as production assistant and production secretary. She was recently mentored by Simon Rhodes on Free Willy South Africa, co-produced by Film Afrika.
